Originally published in French before being translated into English, a comic strip by a French Cartoonist known only as Emma has taken the world by storm. Titled “You Should’ve Asked”, the comic addresses the subject of chores and the incredible amount of energy that so many women put into keeping their household running in the way that their male counterparts have become used to.
She does this in a unique way, by comparing the balance of chores to that of a workplace in the corporate world, outlining the way in which men, in most heterosexual relationships, view their partner as the manager when it comes to household chores. This way of viewing the operation of the home leaves them waiting to be delegated before stepping in to take care of the work that needs to be done, as an ‘underling’ would in a company.
Appearing on sites like The Guardian, it has now been shared over 350,000 times! The comic speaks to the female population, illustrating a problem that has left so many women stressed and/or unhappy with this aspect of their home lives while at the same time breaking the problem down in a way that will help men to understand.
