On Thursday, Elon Musk said that his company’s solar roof will likely cost less than a normal roof, including all labor costs. This comes along with a merger of Tesla and Solar City, which shareholders of both the company’s voted in favor of on Thursday. The merger was a $2 billion dollar deal.
Elon Musk says that the roof will not only cost less than a normal roof to install, it will even save you money.
The solar cells are tucked in behind the glass so the roof looks appealing, sharp, and clean. The plans also include four different types to choose from.
The roofs have a heating element built into them to melt snow, while still generating electricity. All four types of roofs are expected to be available in 2017. Tesla is also releasing the model 3 in 2017. Tesla and Panasonic have pledged to produce solar cells at the Buffalo manufacturing facility on the condition the SolarCity merger passes.
Renewable energy is experiencing much more momentum right now. Tesla made more money in one-quarter this year than all U.S. oil companies made together last year. Due to falling oil prices and the global awakening to the need for renewable energy, Oil companies lost $67 billion last year.
