Depending on where you live in the United States you may be able to delve into the magical world of mushrooms legally. Would you partake?
A group known as the Oregon Psilocybin Society is pushing for a 2020 ballot measure that would make Oregon the very first in the whole nation to legalize psilocybin, this being the active ingredient in psychedelic mushrooms. Currently, psilocybin is a Schedule I drug under the federal controlled substances act, this meaning it has no medicinal value in the eyes of our government.
Advocates for the magic mushroom say the substance is safe and even medically useful. Many are hoping that states will be able to begin reducing restrictions on their own as many have for marijuana. The group is led by Therapists Tom and Sheri Eckert who run therapy practice in the Portland area. They claim to have both had psychedelic experiences in the past and know it’s power.
For many years now research on psychedelics like magic mushrooms has been piling up producing results that show potential for treating many different disorders like depression, anxiety, OCD, and more. Through a series of studies done at several different universities, it has been proven that psilocybin reduces anxiety.
In this campaign, it is specified that they would rather allow for the psychedelic mushrooms to only be legal for use at licensed centers under the supervision of certified facilitators. For more information on the benefits of psychedelics check out the video below.
