Sea of Trash: Shocking Photos of Plastic and Trash Captured in the Caribbean

By October 30, 2017 Other, World News

We are doing much worse than most realize when it comes to recycling plastic. Did you know that most plastic fails to be recycled and ends up in places like the ocean? No really, about 91 percent of all consumer plastic does NOT get recycled.

This is an enormous issue that we are not doing enough about. Photos like the ones I am going over are all too common in this day and age. These photos were taken by Caroline Power and show a literal ‘sea of plastic.’ These photos were taken in the Caribbean and provide a face for pollution, to say the least.

How often do you use plastic and what do you do with it once you’ve used it? Plastic is literally everywhere and it is actually pretty hard to avoid entirely in current times. I believe we should all be doing our best to cut back on our plastic use. Caroline Power posted these photos on her Facebook with an equally powerful caption.

That caption goes as follows:

THIS HAS TO STOP. Think about your daily lives. How did you take your food to go last time you ate out? How was your last street food served? Chances are it was Styrofoam and served with a plastic fork and then out in a plastic bag. Do you still use plastic garbage bags? Plastic soda bottles? Ziploc bags? Plastic wrap on your food?

Do you buy toilet paper that comes wrapped in plastic instead of paper? Do you put your fruit and veggies in produce bags at the grocery store?

I challenge every person and every business to keep your trash for one week. Separate your organics and recyclables and keep everything else for one week. You will be disgusted how many single-use items you use.”

Please take a look at these images Power captured below and really think about the impact we are having on this planet. We can do better. We should do better.

Please check out the videos below on the dangers plastic is having when it comes to our environments. This world is becoming a terrible place to live and I for one am heartbroken over it. Like I said earlier, we can do better. These images say so much more than I can find the words to explain. How does this make you feel?
