“There are two sides to every story but they only want to hear one.”- Brandon Minoff
In recent times, we have been seeing several of the survivors from the Parkland school shooting in Florida speaking out for gun control and while most seem to be for it, this young man is not. One student, a senior survivor of this tragic event says we are focusing on the wrong thing. He believes gun control is not the answer we are looking for but the one we are being pushed.
Brandom Minoff, one of the survivors says that while the media is only covering one side of things, the students at the school are quite divided and passionate on both ends of the situation. He says that instead of targeting gun control, the media should be focusing on those lives that were lost.
Minoff told FoxNews as follows:
“I wholeheartedly believe that the media is politicizing this tragedy. It seems that gun control laws is the major topic of conversation rather than focusing on the bigger issue of 17 innocent lives being taken at the hands of another human.”
“I know many people who are pro-gun and others who support gun control but it seems that the media is specifically targeting those in support of gun control to make it seem as if they are the majority, and the liberal news outlets are the ones that seem to make the bigger effort to speak to these people, and I’m talking from experience.”
“After getting home Wednesday night, three hours after the shooting took place, sitting on the couch and putting on the news, it pained me to hear conversations of gun control laws as I had just luckily escaped one of the deadliest school shootings in US history.”
When asked by MSNBC how he would stop a shooting like the one that he managed to live through Minoff replied with:
“Gun wise, I don’t think there is any way to prevent it. If you outlaw guns it just creates higher demands for it.”
Minoff believes that armed security guards are part of the answer that would help with this kind of thing. While the media and their bias is quite apparent at times I for one am glad someone is speaking out. What do you think should be done to help prevent mass shootings?
