In many ways, the ocean is the only part of planet Earth that we have yet to fully explore. Beneath its briny depths hide countless secrets and mysteries just waiting to be uncovered.
When you imagine all of the ocean’s secrets, you probably don’t think too much about UFOs. However, a recent discovery is sure to have you scratching your head, and looking at the sky in wonder.
Swedish treasure hunters didn’t know what to expect when they embarked on a missive to scour the Baltic Sea. What they found using sonar technology, however, changed the way you will see the world forever.
In 2011, Swedish explorers made a shocking discovery at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. They found a mysterious object on the ocean floor and couldn’t, for the life of them, figure out what they were looking at. However, UFO believers were pretty sure they knew what it was.
Those who believe in extraterrestrial life were sure that the object, nicknamed the “Baltic Sea anomaly,” was an ancient spacecraft that had made its way through the Earth’s atmosphere and crash-landed at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
The Ocean X Team employed sonar technology to scan the floor of the ocean for potentially interesting finds. Using a technique called side-scan sonar, they identified this mysterious object about 300 feet below the surface of the Baltic Sea.
Things only got more mysterious when the team sent out divers to explore the object. “Anything electric out there, and the satellite phone as well, stopped working when we were above the object,” said diver Stefan Hogerborn, who was a part of the Ocean X Team.
Still, the divers were able to retrieve a sample from their explorations. They brought it back for analysis, where geologist Steve Weiner firmly established that, whatever this object was, it was not something that occurred naturally.
To this day, experts still have no conclusive evidence that indicates what exactly this strange find might be. Some have speculated that it was the ancient remains of a battleship gun turret or that it could even be a Nazi anti-submarine device. Other people who are fascinated by this strange object aren’t convinced that its origins are all that everyday and commonplace, however. They believe that this object is a UFO, and they’ve even christened the area as “The Roswell of the Sea.”
Volker Bruchert, a professor who teaches geology at Stockholm University, has his own theory about what the object might be. “My hypothesis is that this object, this structure, was formed during the Ice Age many thousands of years ago,” he speculated.
Unfortunately, it looks like the true identity of this object may continue to go undiscovered. That’s because while interest is there, researchers have thus far been unable to drum up enough funding to help them conduct more research.
This strange and unidentified object on the bottom of the Baltic Sea has fascinated countless people since it was first discovered. Hopefully, someone will come along and crack the mystery soon.
