Sure, it is important that everyone gets the right amount of sleep but it seems men might not need quite as much sleep as women. If your lady woke up cranky this morning, she might be needing a little more sleep than she is getting.
According to Dr. Jim Horne, Britain’s leading expert in sleep science, women need at least twenty minutes more of sleep than men. This being because women tend to multi-task and use more of their actual brain than men. The more you use your brain throughout the day the more sleep you will need.
Another factor is that while men are more prone to sleep apnea, women tend to suffer from insomnia at least three times more often than men. They do not handle sleep deprivation well and become far angrier when they are not getting the sleep they need when compared to men. When we are sleeping we are allowing the brain to recover and repair itself, if we do not give it enough time to do this we are going to cause a host of problems.
Several studies have found that women need more sleep than men. The latest was done back in 2016 by scientists are the Max Planck Institute in Germany. They compared 160 adults of both sexes and found that women needed more sleep to restore their brain power to the full extent.
Horne told DailyMail as follows in regards to women and how their multitasking could be compared to other things:
“You could spend a whole day at the computer on a really tough assignment and, although it would be tiring, it would only be using one part of the brain, but if you constantly switch from one thing to another, it’s more exhausting.”
“That’s why, when you go sight-seeing on holiday, you feel really tired at the end of the day – it’s the novelty of new things that tires the brain out.”
It will give you a lot more insight than you think. Sure, we all need a good bit of sleep but women might just be in need of at least 20 minutes more.
