Sexual abuse of a child is without a doubt one of the most disturbing crimes a person can carry out. However, what’s even worse, is when a trusted official of the law commits such a heinous crime.
Unfortunately, former officer Jacob Ryan Delgadillo with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) pled guilty to just that. Making his atrocious crimes all the more disturbing, the officer was given merely a slap on the hands for his crime. Now many are left asking, why?
He is charged with two felony counts of indecency with a child, accused of having a young girl perform oral sex on him while fondling her at her middle school on November 18, 2015. He said few words as he pleads guilty to his crimes, and as part of the plea deal, he will lose his job as an officer.
Despite the fact that he had faced a possible 20 years in prison, he was granted a mere 5-year probation sentence instead. To make matters even worse, the officer will not even have a record with the successful completion of probation, and will not register as a sex offender.
Yes, you read that right: while any other pedophile would face years in prison and a record, he is getting away without both. Why? Well, presumably because he is an officer of the law. Prosecutors have now dropped the two charges down to misdemeanors and have stated that the girl’s parents were happy with the plea deal.
However, many others are now left in outrage and in fear for their own children. Should being a past officer or taking a plea deal make it to where you shouldn’t have to abide by basic laws? Honestly, I would say no, but what do you think?
