Individuals protesting against the Dakota Access Pipeline have been attacked once again! These people working to protect their water and land seem to be dealing with a very dark evil.
Demonstrating protesters were trapped on a bridge just yesterday while the police of North Dakota were firing tear gas at them as well as a water cannon and concussion grenades! These things have been reported all over social media by protesters involved. This incident happened just north of the main protest camp against the pipeline. There has even been a Livestream of the incident posted to Facebook by a person named Kevin Gilbertt. The protesters had been given only one option according to Gilbertt: “Endure the tear gas or trample each other.”
Senator Bernie Sanders himself has shared Gilbertt’s feed and added a message along with it. He had this to say on the matter:
“President Obama must take all appropriate measures to protect the safety of the Native American protesters and their supporters who have gathered peacefully to oppose construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.”
This meaning that Senator Sanders thinks Obama should stop ignoring this issue and do something to protect the safety of these protesters. Something that should have been happening from the beginning. To make things even more interesting, the county in which the protest is taking place, (Morton County) has estimated the number of demonstrators to be around 400 people with the exception of one person who has been arrested.
Officers have claimed that protesters have been very aggressive and even attempted to start fires. However, an eye witness who was interviewed by Gilbertt says that the fires the police are talking about have been started by police projectiles and not protesters.
What exactly is going on out there in North Dakota and why hasn’t president Obama done anything to help these protesters? To watch a recording of Gilbertt’s livestream please take a look below.
