The US has been preparing for Irma for quite some time now, but will it be enough? This storm just continues to keep on growing, leaving many unsure of the damage it may leave in its wake.
Hurricane Irma now has wind speeds of about 185 mph and ranks in as the most powerful hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean! This is terrifying. As you may know, Irma has already made landfall on a few different islands including Barbuda and the Virgin Islands. People were urged to seek immediate safety/shelter and wait things out.
This Category 5 monster is expected to meet Florida over the weekend, and while locals have been told to evacuate, many still remain. The danger this hurricane possesses cannot be overstated. This could be catastrophic.

Evacuating could literally save your life. According to the Associated Press, Bahamas, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said: “The price you may pay for not evacuating is your life or serious harm” this is something so true that people need to realize. Intense rain, surges, and winds from this storm are also expected to reach the states of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
If and when Irma hits Florida, it will be a Category 4 or higher (currently a Category 5). This will be the first time two such powerful storms have made their way to the US in the same season. With Hurricane Harvey and Irma so close together we will have a lot of cleaning up to do. We can only hope those who do refuse to evacuate remain safe or as safe as they can.
All of this aside, another Atlantic Hurricane is expected to hit the north-eastern Caribbean Islands in the days to come as well. It is named Jose and is currently only a Category 2. That being said, while it doesn’t look like it will hit the US something could change between now and the time it is over. Hopefully, after Irma, we will be able to pick up the pieces and come together like we are doing in Texas to be there for our Florida family.
Between these hurricanes and wildfires, it doesn’t look like anyone is going to be getting much rest right now. For more information on this, please check out the video below. Irma is without a doubt going to be quite the chilling experience for a lot of people. If you have seen any of the damage it has done so far you know how serious it is.
