During an interview with award-winning British investigative journalist Ross Kemp, a masked human trafficker made some gut-wrenching confessions. While this interview is not new it is something that many people need to see.
Human trafficking is a huge issue in the world today. According to the US State Department, there are at the very least 600,000 to 800,000 people trafficked across international borders each year. At least 80 percent of those people are females and half are young children. The cost of one slave based on the global average is a mere $90. In the world right now there are most likely around 30 million slaves.
The ruthless Libyan human trafficker admitted to Kemp that he has trafficked around 4,000 desperate migrants into Europe. He has sold thousands of young girls into child sex slavery and killed no less than 400, those were the children who he did kidnap but could not come up with deals for. Their lives did not mean anything to him.
This man makes a profit of 25,000 British pounds each week in a country where the average monthly wage is a mere 400 pounds. He is making an enormous profit off of those who cannot help themselves. He promises them everything and leaves them with nothing.
“I have trafficked three or four thousand girls, maybe more. We go to poor communities, often Muslim or tribal, and look for real beauties. The girls are auctioned and go up to the highest bidder. A million Taka was the most I got (85,00 pounds).”
“I’ve sold girls [for sex] who are 12. I have never returned any of the children for any reason. If they try to run away, or if there’s any trouble selling them, they are killed and buried. If our bribed police can’t handle it, it goes to the CID, and then we kill the girls. We don’t count how many we killed; about four or five hundred.”
This interview was so intense that it brought Kemp to tears. As the time of this interview, the trafficker said he had over 75 people working for him. He claimed to have been investigated for over 25 different offenses through his ever-expanding seven years strong career.
“I started when I was a young boy, working for a big smuggler. I was paid 500-1000 dinars to put migrants on a boat. Then I got to know some African middlemen, and so I became a proper smuggler myself. People come and they pay us money. The middleman brings 90-95 people, and amongst them, there will be a captain, a compass man, and a GPS man.”
The fact that someone could be so cold hearted is making me sick to my stomach. Kemp has interviewed people like this on several occasions but continues to do so in order to bring more awareness to the issue at hand. He even told the Mirror that one man he spoke with in Romania referred to the girls he trafficked as footballs. This world is a very messed up place.
