Mental toughness is extremely important no matter how you look at it. That being said, most of us are unaware of how to develop it.
Former Navy Seal instructor Mark Divine says that mental strength is more important than any physical ability we could possibly possess. He claims that mental toughness can actually be improved dramatically with just a few simple habits. We can do anything if we truly want to, and all it takes is really putting our minds to work. Mental strength must be achieved far before physical strength is even thought of.
Below you will find the 4 things Devine says we should do in order to become mentally tough. If you can get these things done and continue to do them you will be well on your way. Let us know if these tips work for you.
1. Focus on yourself.
This is the best place to start. Being more aware of ourselves will help us to prevent making the same mistakes over and over again. It is best to keep a journal for this sort of thing even if you only write in it a few minutes a day.
Devine says that when he was younger he would have never been able to imagine his future and that most people feel this way. He suggests doing deep breathing exercises to center yourself before spending time reflecting on who and where you are in life. Building this into a habit will be beneficial.
2. Find your purpose.
Think about what it is you are really supposed to be doing in life. Listen to all of those tiny voices and figure out if you are in the right place or not. Do things in the way you want to do them.
Devine says that:
“For me, it was a powerful self-realization that motivated me to leave a career path that was eating me alive. Asking myself these questions provided guidance and enabled my pursuit of what was my true dream: to become a Navy SEAL.”
3. Make your path in life.
Do what you have to do to get you where you are meant to be. Don’t fall into the cycle of letting other people decide what is best for you. Only you can make those decisions.
4. Support your purpose in life.
Take care of your body and get fired up about being on your true path. Harness the energy you now have and put it to good use. Make sure you have a good support system behind you and go for your dreams.
Devine says that it is important to have a group of people they can be family or friends who will be there for you throughout your journey. Stay on your path and let things unwind as they are supposed to. Devine is clearly a wise individual.
