25 Tweets that Truly ‘Get’ the Reality of Life with Depression

By December 2, 2017 Health, Rabbit Hole

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America estimates that 6.8 American adults are currently living with generalized depression disorder. That works out to approximately 3.1% of the total population. Impacting every aspect of your life from your career to your relationships, your physical health to your community involvement, depression is a serious, all-consuming struggle which, if left unaddressed, may ultimately lead to suicide. It is time that we start speaking up!

For those that are living with the disorder, it can be difficult to truly share how you are feeling. Fighting mixed, and sometimes overwhelming, emotions along with brain fog, even the idea of trying to put it all into words can be frightening. For this reason, it can be incredibly comforting to find someone that has managed to share exactly how you have been feeling. It leaves you feeling justified, understood and it reminds you that you are not alone in this struggle.

This is the reason that the hashtag #ThisIsWhatDepressionFeelsLike was created. This movement, which has swept Twitter, invites anyone who understands the harsh reality and difficult challenges that come with a life battling depression to share their experiences first hand. The tweets are inspirational, powerful, motivational and emotional. One can’t help but commend the courage of those who have chosen to share, allowing themselves to be vulnerable enough to speak honestly about their personal struggle.
