Anxiety is a very real mental illness. People who suffer from anxiety live in a state of constant excessive apprehension and it can be crippling, to say the least.
Anxiety is something that delves much deeper than simply being shy. It is something that overwhelms us with extreme and irrational thoughts. These thoughts literally interfere with our lives on a daily basis. As someone who lives with anxiety, I know all too well how unwelcome it is as a houseguest.
Other people just do not understand what it is like to live with this cloud of worry over your head. I can’t say I blame them though because it is something you just won’t fully ‘get’ unless you are experiencing it firsthand. If you are someone who suffers from anxiety you know the following things to be true. You do these things quite often and no one notices or understands why.
10 Things People Don’t Realize You’re Doing Because of Your Anxiety:
All you do is worry. No, I am not exaggerating you literally worry 24/7. People try to dismiss your uneasiness as being a party ‘pooper’ or a ‘Debbie downer’ but you are anything but. You worry about all the small details and cannot keep yourself from doing so.
2. You’re always drained
Your anxiety leaves you overly drained physically and mentally. That being said even when you want to rest you can’t. Shutting your mind off is nearly impossible.
If there is something that could go wrong you have played it out in your mind 300 times over. You obsess over everything you say as well as everything you do. There is so much going on inside your head.
4. You don’t let people in
You have a few close friends and that is it. You don’t want to deal with the hassle of getting to know a lot of people and there is nothing wrong with that. Being around new people probably makes you as anxious as it does me.
5. You put on a happy face for others
You try to hide your anxiety all the while being terrified that someone will see through your mask. You feel as if your anxiety is written all over your face when it isn’t. This is something that takes up a lot of your time.
6. You avoid any situation that may end with you being judged
Being judged scares you. You don’t like to step out of your comfort zone and avoid anything of the sort. You stick to your routine and ignore everything else.
7. You find solutions
You think up solutions for every possible thing that can go wrong. This is both a good and a bad thing. While you are always prepared, you are perhaps a bit too prepared.
8. Your mind never shuts off
You can be about to fall out on the floor and your mind still will not leave you alone. Your anxiety is not something that you can just turn off. Stress doesn’t slow you down, it keeps you going.
9. You are used to your anxiety
You know how to deal with your anxiety in general. You do not think it is something that you will ever be able to fully recover from and that scares you even more. You would love to be able to just make it stop.
If you are anything like me your anxiety has physical symptoms. When I have to be in front of a big crowd speaking I will literally get sick and vomit beforehand. Of course, not everyone experiences this but I sure do.
