Whether you are currently dealing with a toxic person right now or not, chances are you will at some point in your life. This is something that can be a bit difficult depending on just how toxic the person really is.

Dealing with a toxic person can be very draining and push you well past your limits. When we come across these kinds of people, we need to get them out of our lives as soon as possible. Below you will find a list of common traits I have found in most toxic people. This list should help you when it comes to determining whether your relationships with others are toxic.

1. They do not take responsibility for their actions.

A toxic person will not ever let the blame be cast on themselves. When they do something, the results are never theirs to own up to.

2. They have no interest in the things that matter to you.

When something good happens to you, they will always belittle you. They want the focus on them and their goals always. Nothing you do will ever be good enough, and they refuse to partake in even talking about your interests unless there is something in it for them.

3. They make you prove yourself to them.

They will make you choose them over your friends and so forth. They require you to cut off other aspects of your life to prove your ‘love’ for them. This is extremely unhealthy.

4. They make you defensive.

They will turn things around on you, no matter the topic. If you are arguing, they will bring up your tone, word use, and anything else they can think of as a means to get control of the situation. They want to you be the one defending yourself, not the other way around.

5. They are not consistent.

They are never the same. Their views and opinions on things change almost daily. This all depends on what they plan to accomplish for that day.

6. They are manipulative.

They only think about themselves and what you can do for them. They will do whatever it takes to get you to do what they want you to do.

7. They are not responsible for their feelings.

They project their emotions onto you, if you point this out, they will defend their perspective to an extreme extent and you will get nowhere. They are not capable of accepting responsibility for anything, as mentioned earlier.

8. They are judgmental.

They will constantly be criticizing you and everything you do, as well as what you do not do. You will never be good enough in their eyes.

9. They do not apologize.

They do not see a reason to apologize because nothing is ever their fault. They are always the victim.

10. They get angry when you defy them.

If you do something they didn’t want you to do they will go into a fit of rage. You are their property in a sense, and they will try to make you feel like you have ruined everything because you did something you wanted to do. They will do whatever it takes to make you feel inferior and use your ‘defiance’ to accuse you of not caring about them.

Toxic people are not people who can be fixed. If you help them through one thing, it will only create another problem. They are users and only want you in their lives for their gain. They have nothing to offer you. Toxic people leave you emotionally wiped out and the time you spend with them is unfulfilling, to say the least.

Your time and energy should be spent on yourself. Cutting ties with these people is the best option. Sure, normal relationships can be hard, but when someone is making you put in all the work and controlling you, things are no longer normal. Don’t be overly willing to give your life away, especially to someone who does not deserve it.
